Liner notes in English.
The music on this album spans the period from the mid 1980’s to the early 1990’s revealing various aspects of my thinking about the violin and piano. Whatever other elements that are at play here, the most important aspect in the music is my relationship to the landscape. Although at times the music may be somewhat descriptive of natural phenomena, it is the deeper forces moving beneath the surface that have been the inspiration for the musical ideas. Both pieces titled Ballade bring a different element into the musical fabric, using direct quotations from folk material. These quotations are used to set up a mood or a structure upon which the rest of the piece is built. All of this music comes out of a special friendship with the musicians who have performed the works. Their dedication, professionalism, and their willingness to struggle with difficult technical problems has made me ever respectful of that special bond that exists between a living composer and those who would play his music.
