The Society’s first foray into electroacoustic music, here mixed with several purely acoustic instrumental pieces. The programme is quite extraordinary in its breadth and diversity. On 22 June 1997 soundland alberta has reached NUMBER ONE on Atlanta-based WREK 91.1 FM Top 30 list (the list indicates heavy rotation in order of popularity at the station); WREK is the seventh largest radio station in the US.

Due to the rather unsuccessful design, if ordered alone the disk is offered at a permanent sale price of $4.00 CDN/$3.00 US (plus S&H), or added as a bonus to orders of two or more other titles. But it is music that counts in the end, eh?

Scott Godin: longing… for organ (1994) [05:48]

David Eagle: Music for Axiø (Open This Door) for tape (1993) [09:22]

Ron Hannah: Concert Piece for flute and piano (1975) [03:21]

Robert Rosen: Suite fz/Thanks Frank for tape (1994) [06:16]

Violet Archer: Four Short Pieces for clarinet solo (1995) [07:37]

Brent Lee: La verita fora for tape (1989) [10:40]

Jeff McCune: Red Hills and Blue Sky: Hommage to Georgia O’Keeffe for chamber ensemble (1995) [03:34]

Shawn Pinchbeck: Transformation #1 for flute & tape (1993) [06:50]

Garth Hobden: Musica coelestis for tape (1995) [09:41]

Piotr Grella-Możejko: Due pezzi for organ (1994/95) [09:45]

…this new [CD] is more reflective of the range of activity in the area of concert music composition. On “soundland alberta,” the program bumps up to ten pieces, divided between alternating instrumental and electro-acoustic works, a varied, surprising and exciting listen.

Tony Dillon-Davies, Culture Shock, May 1996
