Concerts

The New Music Alberta concerts are as varied as they are musical forms, featuring solo works with or without electronics, chamber works for string quartet and mixed ensembles, and significant number of works involving one or two pianos and percussion.

From the audience point of view, the New Music Alberta concert series provides an extremely important opportunity to get acquainted with contemporary music in general and Canadian contemporary music in particular. One can never overestimate the impact this will have on the future development and reception of Canadian culture — in Alberta and, through reviews and broadcasts, the rest of the country. In this respect, our series serves as an invaluable learning tool for people in Edmonton and across Canada (in the last years, CBC Radio has recorded and broadcast several of the series’ concerts).

From the composers point of view, New Music Alberta offers an excellent opportunity to hear their works professionally performed, for new and student composers to receive the best possible musical training: namely the realization of their works on the concert stage, for performers to do what they do best at professional rates of pay, and with the interest of the CBC, to give nation-wide exposure to both composers and performers.
