Jagger, Philip* Composer
* Performer

Philip Jagger is a local video and performance artist, musician, and composer. He is also an actor who appeared on Edmonton stages in Dr Faustus, Story of the Eye, Bang, Enter the Giants, A Slight Ache, and his own poetic play Nozien of the World.

His photographic eye and visual concepts have found favour with the Works Art and Design Festival, during which he performed as installation artist twice already, first in Cyber Optix (a computer installation project) and then in the Tales of the Lisbon Seas, a show with video and a live performance alongside another Tonus Vivus member, Don Ross.

As musician Philip fronts the eclectic electric noise and sound ensemble the Agaperaygunexperiment. This ensemble has played numerous shows including The Works, The ARTery, and other venues around the city. The ensemble has premièred two of Philip’s pieces, Go Splat (a sound compositions based on games of go-moko), and Poems of Steel and Granite (a photographic score based on the shapes of four buildings that surround Edmonton’s Sir Winston Churchill Square).

As curator, Philip produced Cortex, a popular hit with the Edmonton Poetry Festival. For the same festival, he created Open Your Eyes to the Word, a poetry video night presented twice. Philip also curated Form vs Function, a night of fashion and experimental music featuring Edmonton models and works by the members of BEAMS (Boreal Electro-Acoustic Music Society).

Philip’s art always has been about pushing, re-defining, and finding new ideas. He hopes to continue exploring new avenues of artistic expression as a member of Tonus Vivus.
