Pon, Nova – Biography

Nova Pon completed undergraduate studies in 2005 in music composition at the University of Calgary where she studied principally with Allan Bell, David Eagle, Hope Lee, Miroslav Spasov and William Jordan. Notable performances of her works have included the premieres of Sketches of Clouds by the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra in their 2004 Asian Heritage Month Gala, and premieres by performers including The University of Calgary Orchestra, Sempre la Musica, Ensemble Resonance, The Rubbing Stone Ensemble, and The Prairie Sax Quartet.. She also writes music for films and media and was selected to study at ASCAP’s Film Scoring Workshop in New York in 2006. Nova is also active as a flutist, and performs with Quintessence Winds, of which she was a founding member, and teaches flute and music theory at her home studio.
