Erin Rogers is a composer, performer, teacher and advocate of new music, fully and completely dedicated to the compositional process while specialising in the interpretation of significant 20th century literature for the concert saxophone.
Erin has appeared as soloist with the New Edmonton Wind Sinfonia, the Bowling Green State University Philharmonia, and the University of Alberta Symphonic Wind Ensemble among others. An accomplished chamber musician, she has performed with the Citizen Quartet, the Devil’s Own Quartet, the Brooklyn Heights Chamber Musicians and the Lost Dog New Musik Ensemble. In 2003, she and saxophonist Chih-Huan Wu formed the CanTai Duo, a group dedicated to the performance and proliferation of quality repertoire for duo saxophones. In the spring of 2004, the CanTai Duo was awarded a ProMusica Grant to perform 5 concerts throughout North America and Asia. Erin has given solo recitals in the U.S., Canada, France and Taiwan. A budding composer, Erin’s works have been performed in North America, Europe and Asia and have been broadcast on CBC radio and Nacional Radio d’Espana, with recent performances by the Lost Dog New Music Ensemble (New York), the Tribuna Sax-Ensemble (Spain), and the Kovalis Duo (Edmonton). In 2005, her chamber work, The Dionysian, was awarded a world premier performance at the Circulo des Bellas Artes in Madrid, Spain, following its selection from an international rostrum of young composers.
Based in New York, Erin is director of Random Access Music (RAM), a composers’ consortium committed to bringing new music to audiences throughout Queens and Manhattan, and is on the board of directors of the Astoria Music Society. For more information, go to http://www.astoriamusic.org.
Born and raised in Western Canada, Erin completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Alberta and, in 2005, received master’s degrees in composition and performance from Bowling Green State University. From 2002-2004, Erin was a teaching fellow for Distinguished Artist/Research Professor, John Sampen. Erin has been invited to give lectures, music clinics and master classes worldwide. She has directed private music studios in Canada and the US since 1995 and, in July of 2004, was the first female featured guest artist and instructor at the annual Taiwan Saxophone Camp in Taipei, Taiwan. Erin is currently an instructor of music at the Baccalaureate School for Global Education in Astoria, Queens.
